To Be or Not to Be

“There’s no reason why I should lose my nerve!” A comedy from the area of theatre in which the actors’ lives are dead serious.

One of the best war film comedies of all time was premiered on stage, in Nick Whitby’s dramatisation, on Broadway in 2008. It is said that the muses are silent when arms speak. ¨However, that is not true for the Warsaw Theatre actors who become comical heroes of the Polish resistance movement against their will. As a result of love affairs and jealousy, the actors get the roles of their lives by sheer chance. They have only one task: play the most dangerous and convincing roles of their lives. This situation comedy from the time in which the war takes the theatre away from a Polish Hamlet-playing actor, who then finds a new stage, is a great satire on our time as well – a time in which an actor might become an unlikely hero, or a president...
