Itai Segal
Whom My Soul Loves
Seventeen-year-old Yehonatan is growing up in an Orthodox family near Tel Aviv. He tries to lead a ‘normal’ life and hides his true sexual orientation. A shooting at a bar in Tel Aviv, where he finds himself with his boyfriend Adam, begins to reveal Yehonatan’s secret.
Itai Segal, an Israeli journalist, screenwriter and playwright, tells with humour and poignant candour the story of young people lost between what one ‘ought to do’, how one ‘ought to love’, and who and how their soul actually loves. It is the story of anyone who struggles with a wall of fear whilst longing to understand both themselves and those they care about.
Itai Segal’s play had its world premiere on 25 December 2021 at the Habima National Theatre in Israel. The performance in Plzeň will be not only the Czech but also the European premiere.
