THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO, OR A CRAZY DAY

“Those at the top are taking too many liberties.”

A timeless French comedy full of intrigues, infidelity, old debts, droit du seigneur and piquant accusation of those in power. The celebrity and ruler of the region, Count Almaviva, unwittingly battles the wits of his subordinate yet greatest rival, the servant Figaro. When the Count wants to taste the sweet embrace of Susanna, Figaro's chosen one, a tough fight begins.

King Louis XVI showed extremely keen judgement when, in 1782, after reading the play, he said that in order for "Figaro" to be performed publicly in a theatre, the Bastille would first have to be demolished. He was a prophet. He was only wrong about the order of events.

The play, with rich stage design, promises a real spectacle, which we already promised to the Pilsen audience in the 2021/2022 season and postponed it, for technical and artistic reasons, until the 2024/2025 season.
