Heda
Henrik Ibsen / Dana Hlaváčová
Heda
A loose adaptation based on Henrik Ibsen's play Hedda Gabler
When helplessness is more terrifying than death, love turns to hate and fragility to insensitive coldness. This Heda Is Not Dead and she won't give in to anyone or anything. A new adaptation based on Henrik Ibsen's play Heda Gabler about people who, in their desire for freedom, drive themselves into traps.
Heda, Heda Gabler, the ambitious and dangerously beautiful daughter of General Gabler, pampered by everyone, yet unattainable. A modern Artemis. And next to her – Jørgen Tesman. A brilliant scientist, but a man who is almost useless in practical life. Something is missing and someone is surplus to requirements... Instead of fulfilled dreams, there is only banality. Instead of a fulfilled life, there is only silence, which sounds louder than shouting. Who controls whom? Who is today's Heda? Have we learned to face our own mistakes?
Ibsen's 1890 drama caused a huge stir at the time of its creation. The play about a "monster in female form" was sharply criticized by both audiences and critics. Over time, however, it became one of the most performed works by Norway's most important playwright. The J. K. Tyl Theater is approaching this material for the first time in its history.
