Anna Pavlova
Anna Pavlova, a prima ballerina with an ethereal presence, is an icon of the ballet world. Her legacy spans the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, yet continues to resonate to this day.
One of the most famous dancers, who influenced subsequent generations of dancers and choreographers, made her debut in St. Petersburg, where she went on to perform in numerous major solo roles. She then continued her career westward—dancing with Sergei Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes and the Imperial Ballet, and founding her own company, with which she brought the art of ballet to countries that had not previously experienced it.
Her persona, inextricably linked to choreographer Mikhail Fokin’s *The Dying Swan* set to the music of Camille Saint-Saëns, is a symbol of fragility and inviolability that elevates the art of ballet to the level of values that are an integral part of our culture and existence.
On the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre, the ballet company offers a glimpse into the life of an artist who, in her time, set the course for the development of classical ballet.
