Although Verdi's operas are performed regularly in Pilsen, the last staging of Macbeth was 33 years ago. Macbeth is Verdi's first meeting with Shakespeare with its premiere in Florence in 1847. The opera's plot is placed in the 11th-century Scotland and it is a riveting story of an increasing thirst for power not only by Macbeth himself, but particularly by his wife who does stop at nothing and drives her husband to destruction. She is haunted by remorse, loses her sanity and her husband gets killed by Macduff. Macbeth, along with Louise Miller, is the direct predecessor of the composer's famous opera triplet - Rigoletto, Troubadour, La Traviata. We perform the opera in original Italian with Czech subtitles.
Premiere on 2 April 2016 at the Grand Theatre.
