The romantic story based on Lord Gordon Byron's poetic tale is the composer’s last ballet-pantomime opus, which premiered in Paris in 1856. But it entered the repertory of great ballet stages - and is still part of it - thanks to the choreographic production of Marius Petipa from 1899. The ballet work is full of dance numbers and variations that check the classical training of dancers. It is an opportunity for the ballet company to demonstrate the permanent embedding of dance foundation within the repertory range.
Premiere on 16 November 2019 at the Grand Theatre.
