Kazimír and Karolína

Ödön von Horváth

And love never dies!

This seemingly banal story about two lovers belongs to the pinnacles of dramatic work of the 20th century. Horváth says about his dramas that he wants to show the gigantic battle between the individual and society, the eternal struggle in which there can be no peace except for a fleeting moment of illusion that arms are at rest.

Simple driver Kazimír and his girlfriend Karolína go to a fair but thanks to a mutual misunderstanding they have a row and each experiences the magical fairground evening in their own way; each walking towards their own fate. Will they get together again?

The spoiled love story has an extraordinary inner strength and conviction. It seems that the characters use language in order to deceive each other rather than for a mutual agreement. They don't say what they feel but rather what they think they should say. But still love never dies.

Premiere on 16 December 2017 at the Grand Theatre.

Tobacco products are used in the performance.
