Year 1920. A woman after a failed suicide attempt is admitted to a mental asylum in Berlin. First under the name of Tchaikovsky and later as Anna Anderson, she is claimed to be the last daughter of Tsar Nicolas II Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanova, a survivor of the killing of the imperial family in Yekaterinburg of July 1918.
The world-renowned choreographer and director Youri Vámos, who is known for his transformation of classic ballet librettos, had found a parallel between the seventeen-year-old Anastasia and the Sleeping Beauty of Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, whose music accompanies the story that is far from a romantic fairytale. The grand setting at the New Scene will present the historical theme through ballet and romantic musical composition.
Premiere on 28 March 2020 at DJKT New Scene
